Plaque that is left alone hardens into tartar within a couple of days, and tartar cannot be brushed off. Nadia takes it off with a scaler, which is an instrument that vibrates rather than cuts, and then polishes the surface so there is less for the next lot to hold on to.
Most of the appointment is spent along the gum line, which is where it collects and where it does the most harm.
If your gums bleed when you brush, say so at the start. That usually means the tartar has gone below the gum line and the appointment takes longer.
